Gobichettipalayam is located in Erode District. This is a semi rural area. An old man named Gobi Chetti lived in this place and hence the city gets its name "Gobichettipalayam". Gobichettipalayam is also called as Gobi.

Previously Gobichettipalayam was called as Verapandi Gramam, and more documents and records still use that name. Gobichettipalayam is warm and humid for most of the year. Gobichettipalayam is known for the Temple Pariyur Amman and the dam Kodavari. Pariyur Amman temple is dedicated to the goddess Kaliamman.

The people of Gobichettipalayam mainly concentrate on rice paddies, sugarcane, banana, and turmeric cultivation. Some spinning mills to support the local weaving industry are also developing in the region.
